A new game for the Game Boy!
Jump into the world of the Confederation of North America (CNA) and United States of Mexico (USM) as they battle out the Rocky Mountain War! Based on the novel For Want of a Nail: If Burgoyne Had Won at Saratoga by Robert Sobel depicting an alternate history for North America in which the American Revolution was successfully put down by the King.
Scorpions in a Bottle puts you in the role of famous generals of the Rocky Mountain War as you command infantry through the War's historic battles! Features:
- Turn-based top-down 19th century battle simulation
- Move your units around the battlefield
- Use terrain to your advantage or catch your enemies in a trap
- Utilize your General Power to keep the advantage in battle
- Dynamic and tactical Unit-vs-Unit skirmishes
- Simple code-based progress system
Gameplay/Controls:
Before each battle you will be able to place all of your units on the map. There are 4 types of terrain in each map:
Mountain | ![]() | Defensive Boost: Units in skirmishes less likely to deal damage. |
Forest | ![]() | Potential Def. Boost: Units in skirmishes may be less likely to deal damage. |
River | ![]() | Offensive Boost: Units in skirmishes more likely to deal damage. |
Plain | ![]() | No Boost |
After both you and your enemy places all units, the battle will begin! In battle, you will be able to move your cursor between your units during your turn. When your cursor is on a unit, you can press the A button to select that unit.
When a unit is selected, the D-Pad will move the unit on the map in the direction you press, as long as the unit has enough moves. Each unit can move once per turn and up to 2 units each time it moves. You can press the B button to cancel and deselect the current unit.
When you've moved your unit, you can press the A button to choose to either Hold the unit, meaning ending that units turn, or Engage an enemy if the unit is next to an enemy unit. If you Engage, a skirmish will initiate.
In each skirmish, each unit will be represented by one solider for each health the unit has (from 1 to 4). Players take turns selecting their move from four options:
- CHARGE - An all out attack that risks damage to your unit with high chance of damaging the enemy.
- ATTACK - A standard assault that doesn't risk damage to your unit and has good chance of damaging the enemy.
- RALLY - Put your unit in a defensive stance. Does no damage, but makes your enemy less likely to damage your unit during their next turn.
- RETREAT - End the skirmish.
If all of a unit's soldiers are defeated, the skirmish will end immediately, otherwise the skirmish continues. When the skirmish ends, you will return to the battle map to continue the battle. The battle will continue until one player's units are wiped out or your surrender.
General Powers:
Each commander has a special General Power that is in effect when they are leading troops. You can see the General Powers in play for a battle by pressing the Select button on the Battle Selection screen or in the battle, when on the map. General Powers may limit skirmish options, heal units with 1 health to 2, protect units from supply limits, start opposing units with 3 health instead of 4, etc.
In the last battle, Williams Pass, you can select your commander and, thus, your General Power.
Progress Codes:
After each battle, if you are victorious, you will be presented a Progress Code. You can input this 4-digit code when starting the game to restore your progress to where you last left off.
